Tape backup and archiving offer various strategies (Full, Incremental, Differential) and rotation schemes ("Tower of Hanoi", "Round-Robin", "Grandfather, Father, Son"). At a minimum, Dell recommends a 3 tape media rotation to help protect your data from catastrophic loss (one in-use at the office , one archived on-site, and a third archived off-site). WORM (Write Once, Read Many) media technology is widely used to meet growing business and regulatory requirements, preserving data written to a tape cartridge so that it cannot be rewritten, erased or altered in any way.
